CAPTAIN A. F. INMAN RETIRES

LONG SERVICE WITH UNION COMPANY The retirement of Captain Alfred Frederick Inman, master of the intercolonial vessel Komata, was announced yesterday by the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand. Captain Inman was in the company’s service for 42 years. Born in London, he served as seaman on various steamers and schooners, then became third officer of the Union company’s Wanaka in 1912. In two years he became second officer, and chief officer in 1917. He served in the first Tofua, the Manuka, Moeraki, and Maheno. until he held acting command of several vessels between 1927 and 1931. Captain Inman was appointed permanent master in July, 1932, commanding the first Waimea: Since then he has commanded many of the company’s vessels engaged in the New Zealand coastal and intercolonial trades. For the last 10 years he has been master of the Kurow, Koromiko, Kaitoke. and Kawaroa. He relinquished command of the Komata at Auckland yesterday. ■
