N.Z. PRODUCTION OF TOYS
MORE THAN 8,000,000 MADE LAST YEAR (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 10. More than 8,000,000 toys and dolls were produced in New ■ Zealand last year at a value of nearly £850,000, according to figures presented by the Department of Industries and Commerce at a Board of Trade hearing. Import duties on toys have increased nearly threefold. There are at present 31 producing units employing 506 full-time workers and many more part-time workers. Tiie department, in a survey of the industry in New Zealand, said that balls, darts, bull-roarers, jumping jacks, humming, spinning, and whip tops, kites (usually in the shape of a bird), toy canoes and garden hoes. And miniatures Of the warriors’ weapons were all produced by the Maori long ago.
