CQNTRIBUTIONS TO WELFARE STATE
, Sir,—Mr Algie’s statement in the Budget debate that “it was only the s wealthy who could provide the wealth e required to run a welfare State,” needs s analysing. To begin with, every wage» e earner and person receiving money p other than salary contributes to the F Social Security Fund. It is the family pool to be drawn upon in cases of ?. need. In New Zealand there are thousands more ordinary wage and salary
earners than wealthy persons; therefore the ordinary man keeps the fund floating and alive.—Yours, etc., THE MASSES. July 29, 1954.
