CANCER
Sir, —Although, as “Pooled Results” t points out, nervousness may imply j fear, I do not think that at the Sao c Paulo conference on cnacer, the Rus- s sians, who have plenty of nerve, necessarily attributed cancer to nerves frayed by fear. Nerves form the chain of contacts for the spark of life within : us. Subject them to the excesses of ’ modern life, and that chain becomes ; twisted and warped. For instance, the i optic nerves, affecting all other nerves, . are the very ones abused most today, by excessive speed, flickering giants ’ on the screen, over abundant news in very small print, a plethora of beauty queens, the sunshine cult, etc. Fear does not ruin the nerves; it brings them to their senses.—Yours, etc., PRESTRESSED.
