POPE’S ADVICE TO GIRLS
(Rec. 8 p.m.) VATICAN CITY, July 17. Pope Pius XII warned Roman Catholic girls today to beware of the base temptations of the world around them. He was speaking to 6000 Children of Mary gathered in Saint Peter’s Basilica at the close of a congress in Rome.
The girls represented more than 500,000 members of the association all over the world.
The Pope told them they lived “In a world constantly oblivious of God and the beyond in which the only preoccupation of people seems to be the satisfaction of temporal needs—wellbeing, pleasure and vanity. “To protect your liberty in the face of appeals, often covetous, aimed from all sides at your senses and curiosity, claiming your attention, your time, money, and sometimes even your hearts, you must build a spiritual fortress where in meditation and silence you should ’continue to listen with respect to the voice of God.”
