Pakistan To Aid East Bengal Province
' (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) KARACHI, July 15. The Pakistan Government will give the East Bengal province £21,000,000 financial assistance during the current financial year to raise living standards, it was officially announced today. The money will be used to improve food supplies, finance important development projects, and generally assist the economy of the province, where more than half the country’s 76,000,000 people live. The assistance is the result of recommendations of a committee which visited the province shortly after the Pakistan Government dismissed Mr Fazlul Huq’s Provincial Ministry at the end of May. The Government was dismissed for failing to restore order during an outbreak of rioting in the province in which more than 500 persons were killed.
