GAME ABANDONED AT FOLKESTONE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 6 p.m.) LONDON, July 17. The New Zealand women's cricket team's match against East of England, at Folkstone, today was abandoned because of rain. There was no play this morning. The pitch was examined in the afternoon, and it was still unfit for play. The match was abandoned. The overnight scores were New Zealand 296 for five declared, and East of England 79 for eight. Yesterday the New Zealanders kept up a fast rate of scoring on a hard wicket, to score their 296 by the tea break. The top scorer, E. Paton, was 78 not out. She hit 14 4’». Scores r* New Zealand 296 for five declared (J. Coulston 49, R. McKenzie 39. P. Blackler 74, E. Paton not out 78). East of England 79 for eight (E. Paton six for 34. P. Batley two for 26). The New Zealanders’ next match will be at Hindhead on July 21 against s South of England second eleven.
