ROUND THE WORLD IN 28FT KETCH

YOUNG YACHTSMEN’S VENTURE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 13. Two young men will leave Auckland on Sunday to sail round the world in the 28ft ketch Marco Polo. . For the skipper, Tony Armitt, a 21-year-old Auckland accountant, and his crew Bryan Lowe, aged 22, a farmer who comes from Wellington, it will be the start of a voyage planned nearly two years ago. . It was then that Mr Armitt befan building the ketch, which will be the voyagers’ home for the next four or five years. The craft has a beam of Bft sin. On the waterline she is 26ft, and she has a draught of 4ft Bin. Her sail area is about 386 square feet, and she has -an eight horsepower auxiliary motor.
