N.Z.-MADE FARM MACHINERY
STANDARD CRITICISED (New Zealand, Press Association) GISBORNE, June 11. An allegation that New Zealand manufacturers of farm machinery had “fallen down on the job” was made by Mr H. D. Lange at the Gisborne provincial conference of Federated Farmers yesterday. He was supporting a motion, which was passed, that the agricultural section of the federation should make further representations to the Government about duty and sales tax on imported farm machinery. “The Government is forcing us to use inferior and dearer machinery manufactured in this country,” he said.
Mr Lange said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake) had been approached, and had asked the federation to indicate any particular cases where machinery was not up to standard.
