The return of Mrs Evelyn Smith, aged 23, wife of a prominent Phoenix businessman, was the climax of a fantastic plot which the F. 8.1., the Phoenix police, and the Sheriff’s office have been investigating since yesterday evening. The ransom note received by her husband warned: “You have one chance, and one chance only. Either you do or you don’t.” - The note demanded ransom money and gave directions for its payment. The note added: “Knowing the penalty for kidnapping we are gambling our lives.
