FINAL DAY AT ELLERSLIE

OKLAHOMA SELECTED IN STEEPLES “The Press'’ Special Service AUCKLAND, June 11. The Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting will be concluded at Ellerslie tomorrow, when the main attraction will be the Winter Steeplechase, run over three miles for £3OOO. The field includes some fast, clever jumpers and a fine contest should result. Oklahoma, Probator, Penryn, Silver Blue and The Bat are expected to dispute the finish. Oklahoma is reported to have trained on well since he won the Green Lane Steeplechase on the first day last week, and he pleased in a gallop yesterday. Oklahoma has 9st 91b, Probator 9st 101 b, and Penryn 9st 41b. Oklahoma has often looked the part of a top-class steeplechaser, and he strengthened the impresion when he won last Saturday. He jumped smoothly, and ran the race (two miles and a half) right out to the finish. The Te Rapa three-year-old, Tri-bunal,-should win again, and his chance may be in the first leg of the double, the Visitors’ Handicap. Tribunal has made steady improvement since he resumed racing last month after a spell. He has Bst 61b. Noble Hero, Smoke Box and Highland Sandy are in form, and they will probably be Tribunal’s strongest opponents. A limit field -of 26 is almost certain in the second leg of the double, the York Handicap, of £l5OO, one mile. Elixir, Lyndomar, Te Awa and Sweet Wren are candidates with good credentials. Argument, a beaten favourite in the Cornwall Handicap, one *mile and a quarter, last Saturday, regained favour by a trial gallop on Thursday. With Bst 51b and No. 4, he may be hard to beat. Conditions, were very drying yesterday, the wea’ther being fine and sunny. If the good spell continues, the ground will be soft, but not bad for winter. Orakei Hurdles: First Home and Kitchener. Captain Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, the Queen’s trainer, was fined £lOO by the stewards of the Jockey CJub today after an inquiry into the Winston Churchill Stakes at Hurst Park last Saturday, Royce Burrows, the jockey, was suspended until July 3. In the race two horses trained by Boyd-Rochfort (Premonition, 8-1 favourite, and Osborne, 25-1 outsider, ridden by Burfows) finished first and second in a photo-finish. The Jockey Club’s official nptice stated that the stewards inquired into the riding of Osborne by Burrows. They ruled that Boyd-Rochfort "had neglected his responsibilities as trainer in not giving Burrows concise orders,” and they informed Burrows that they did not accept his explanation that the horse was hanging.
