THE OLD “LEVELS” HOMESTEAD.—The first homestead on the Rhodes brothers’ South Canterbury run, which was managed by George Rhodes, was on the beach under the cliffs near the Timaru landing place. The dwelling shown above was built at “The Levels,” named after their old home in Yorkshire. It was with the theft of sheep from .“The Levels” (article elsewhere on this page) that James Mackenzie was charged.
