CHOIR FLIES TO AUCKLAND
One hundred members of the Christchurch Harmonic Society’s choir flew to Auckland for the Festival of Arts in four Douglas DC-3 airliners of the National Airways Corporation yesterday. The choir, with the National Orchestra under Warwick Braithwaite, will sing “The Dream of Gerontius” in the festival this evening. Altogether about 150 of the society’s members have made their way to Auckland. The first of the special airoraft left Christchurch airport at 8.50 a.m. and was followed by other special flights at 9.45 a.m., 3.40 p.m. and 4.50 p.m. On Monday the operation will be reversed with four special flights returning the choir to their home town.
