GREEK CAMPAIGN
N.Z. GRATITUDE TO ROYAL NAVY MESSAGE FROM LORD FREYBERG (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 4. Lord Freyberg has sent to the First Lord (Admiral of the Fleet Sir Rhoderick MeGrigor) a message of greetings and gratitude from the men of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. to all ranks of the Royal Navy to mark the thirteenth anniversary of the Greek and Cretan campaigns. As commander of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. and later as Governor-General of New Zealand, Lord Freyberg has sent such a message each year since the campaigns. Since returning to England he has continued the practice at the request of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association. In this year’s message, Lord Freyberg says that the men of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. “will never forget what they owed to the gallantry and efficiency of their naval comrades tn arms
during those difficult and hazardous days.”
