DOGS
Sir,—ln answer to the rambling diatribe against dogs and the Department of Health—their connexion escapes me—published above the name “Time Now,” may I be permitted to reply? In this highly complex and difficult modern life of ours it is often refreshing to be in the company of beings completely happy and untroubled. In this category young children and dogs have fifrst place. Unfortunately, young children speedily become affected with adult status, with its attendent concern with this or that “ism,” or the hypocrisy or scandals of the moment.. Dogs, however, retain their sincerity, loyalty and simplicity till the day they die, in face of every inducement that modern civilisation offers. If the human race were more in company with canines perhaps we should have a better world. A final point in the dogs’ favour is that they do not write pointless letters to newspapers.—Yours, etc., RAJAH. March 25, 1954.
