MOUNTAINEER SAFE AND WELL
FATIGUED MAN LEFT AT HOOKER HUT (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, January 12. Mr Kynsand Handsand, who was reported to have been fatigued and left at Hooker Hut, near the head of the Coplan river, is safe and well. A search party was to have left Wataroa this morning, but after advice from the Chief Guide, M. Bowie, of the Hermitage, the party has been disbanded.
Mr Handsand was a member of a party of 12 experienced mountaineers which crossed the Southern Alps from the Rakaia district and came down the Wataroa river last Friday. On Saturday morning the party left for the Hermitage by way of Copland pass, and at the head of the Copland river Mr Handsand found he could not continue, and agreed to wait in the hut until assistance came from the Hermitage.
Constable D. Wombwell, of Wataroa, was informed of his plight on Sunday night bv Mr Bowie, who yesterday reported the safety of Mr Handsand.
