(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 12. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) said today that at a meeting of members of the Parliamentary Labour Party held yesterday a resolution was carried expressing deepest sympathy for the injured and the relatives of those who were lost in the Tankiwai rail disaster on Christmas Eve.
Tribute was also paid to the outstanding service of the men who carried out the arduous work of recovering the bodies of the victims and appreciation was recorded of the facilities provided and the splendid hospitality shown by the Army authorities at Waiouru and the naval wireless station and the wives of the military men at the camps.
The disaster, said Mr Nash, brought an example of complete co-operation and human sympathy from the railwaymen. the police, the Army and Navy, the churches and members of the general public. It would live for many years in the history of the Dominion.
