GIFT YACHT FOR PRINCE
FINISHING TOUCHES BEING GIVEN (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. December 16. The P Class yacht for Prince Charles, the gift of the Auckland Harbour Board, is probably the bestlooking seven-footer ever built. Her builders. Messrs D. Marks and J. Sharps, will send her to the Harbour Board sheds tomorrow for rigging, the painting of a fine gold line edged in royal blue round the topsides, and the attachment of a chromium name plate tc the stem. The yacht will be named the Tui.
Of kauri, clear varnished, the hull i c like an exquisite piece of furniture. The deck is of kohehohe, and the bulkheads, seat, and centre case of mottled kauri. The floorboards, rudder, mast, and boom are of kauri. The plate is in nine New Zealand woods, running longwise to give a multicoloured effect. On the. bow is a stainless steel forward chain plate and lifting handle. Letters have come to the Ponsonby Cruising Club, sponsor of the class, from Canada, Australia. South Africa, and Malaya asking for details, pictures, and plans of the yacht.
