CONDITION OF MAIN NORTH ROAD
PROTEST BY AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION
The Main North road past Cheviot was in very poor condition, and he doubted if it would be open for the Christmas traffic, said the president of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) (Mr W. R. Carey) at a meeting yesterday. The council decided to write to the authorities expressing their disapproval and distress at the way in which the road had been neglected. Mr Carey said he had travelled up the road on Saturday and had been forced to turn back and take the detour. If the detour roads were used to carry the heavy Christmas traffic driving would be difficult, he said. There were “some wicked corners’’ along the deviation. _
