HIGHER BUS FARES
MIDLAND MOTORWAYS SERVICES Increased fares and freight rates on the Midland Motorways Cervices’ routes have been approved by the Commissioner of Transport. The overall effect of the increases is to enable the firm to increase its revenue by between 5 per cent, and 6 per cent., according to an officer of the Transport Department. Single fares on such trips at Christchurch to Belfast. Kaiapoi and Rangiora are unchanged, but the- workers’ weekly concession tickets have been increased by from 8 per cent, to 10 per cent. The increased charges for these tickets will come into force on Monday. Some of the new charges for 10-trip concessions cards for trips to Christchurch are:—Belfast, 8s 6d (compared with 7s 6d); Kaiapoi, 14s 6d (13s); and Rangiora, 22s (20s). Single fares for each of these trips are unchanged at Is 3d. 2s, and 3s respectively. Higher fares on the firm’s Christ-church-Dunedin service, effective immediately. have also been authorised. Some of the increases on this route are a£ follows:—Christchurch to Timaru, from 17s 6d to 20s; Waimate, 22s 6d to 25s 6d: Oamaru, 27s 6d to 30s; Palmerston. 32s 6d to 36s 6d; Dunedin, 40s to 455. Freight rates have been increased on all services by an average of 28 per cent.
