GRATITUDE
Sir,—-I would like to express my gratitude for what the Government has done for old-age pensioners. We thank you, Sid, for the few extra quid, To help us on our way, There’ll be turkey and ham, Plum pud’ and jam, And we’ll all shout “Hip hooray.” We thank our lucky stars That your party is in power, Before you were returned We got thinner every hour. You played the game when the German, frame Was on aggression bent, “C” Company was not your creed, To “see the others off,” Like us you went on duty bent Without a thought of gain or cent. —Yours, etc., OLD CONTEMPTIBLE.
