ENROLMENTS ALREADY TOTAL 282 EXTRA TEACHER MAY BE SOUGHT Enrolments for the new Linwood High School so far total 282, and the headmaster (Mr B. H. Wakelin) considers that the appointment of an extra teacher may be necessary. before the school opens in February. Mr Wakelin told the Christchurch Post-Primary Schools' Board of Governors, meeting as the Linwood High School Board of Managers, last evening that ihe» staff list, as originally drawn up, envisaged a roll of 250. The enrolments for each course are as follows:—professional, 58 boys, 35 girls; commercial, 10, 36; general, 87, nil; home life, nil, 56. “I regret to say that it will not be possible to have a permanent building for use as a workshop when the school is opened in February next,” said a letter from the Assistant Director of Education (Mr C. G. S. Ellis) received by the board. “However, we have asked the Canterbury Education Board whether it can sunply a double-unit prefabricated building for use as a temporary woodwork shop,” said the letter. “This type of accommodation has been provided at some of the other recentlyestablished post-primary schools, and has proved quite satisfactory pending the construction of permanent workshops. “We h?ve also asked the Government Architect to press on with the adjustments required to the Henderson type of workshop plans and to secure a price from the contractor at the earliest possible date.” The board affirmed its previous decision expressing opposition to the suggestion of a temporary building.
