ROYAL TROTTING MEETING
TEMPORARY STEEL STAND GROUNDS TO BE CLOSED AT NIGHT A tubular steel grandstand will be erected at the Addington trotting grounds by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club to cater for “outside” patrons on January 21. the day of the race meeting which will be attended by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. x The stand will have approximately the same accommodation as that which was destroyed by fire early last month. The (flub will make no extra charge for seats in the temporary, stand, which will not be roofed. To avoid long queues and delays at the gates on the day of the meeting, the club has arranged for admission tickets to be on sale at its city office in Christchurch. The admission charges will be the same as those for ordinary meetings. No one will be allowed on the grounds the night before the meeting. Patrols will be on duty at night to see that no one tries to secure a vantage point before the gates open at 7.30 a.m. on January 21. Decorations for the buildings at the course have been considered by the club, and almost every building will be draped with bunting and tricolours. The uprights of the stands will be wrapped in bunting, and all the stands, totalisator buildings, and outbuildings will be decorated. Flower plantings are growing well, and given good weather, will make a bright display. The special floral display behind the finishing line, in carpet bedding effect and showing the Royal Cipher in flowers of red, white and blue, is also progressing well.
