Officially the objects of “Housing Week are to stimulate public interest in house budding, to show the latest developments in lower-cost home buKding, and to permit manufacturei s ana others concerned in house building to display their products. k jnain theme of the display will be that builders, individuals, and organisations will be invited to build homes each featuring their own materials and types of construction Construction will be so timed that they will be finished approximately together. They will be on adjacent sections.
When all are completed they will be thrown open to the public for inspection during “Housing Week,’’ and the public will have an opportunity to compare prices, appearance, and other features. The co-operation of supply organisations, hardware and furniture manufacturers, landscape gardeners, and others will be sought. However, it is pointed out that the scheme may be threatened if local authorities are unable to make land available, but it is considered that the addition of a group of modern, attractive homes of varied design would be welcomed by any local body. Half a dozen homes in each group is aimed at.
It is intended to hold conducted tours of housing areas and housing projects, both private and government; talks, features, and film displays about housing; special radio programmes; and displays in shop windows and stores of the cities and towns in which the “Housing Week” is being held. Local authorities in the selected centres, in co-operation with the National . Housing Council, will organise the “Housing Week.”
