SCHOOL OF ART RENOVATIONS
ORIGINAL STONEWORK PERISHING
Original stonework in the School of Art, dating from last century, is perishing and its replacement is the subject of tenders being called by the Ministry of Works. The contract may run into several thousand pounds. This work is part of delayed maintenance at Canterbury University College. Already many of the main buildings have had ornamental facings restored. and the roofs have had copper spouting, ridging, and skylight flashing installed. The flat roof over the clois 1 - ters is now being recovered in bituminous paving. The School of Art work ‘is more serious. Stone in the actual fabric of the building on both the Rolleston avenue and Hereford street frontages has deteriorated and its replacement will be more complicated. It is not expected that classes will be interrupted because all the work required is on the exterior.
