INJURY TO KING’S FAIR
POLICE INQUIRIES CONTINUED Police inquiries continued yesterday into the cause of the mouth injury suffered by the North Island horse, King’s Fair, which was to have raced on the first day of the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton on Saturday. It was found on Saturday morning that the horse’s mouth was burned and he was scratched for the Spring Plate. The judicial stewards investigated a report by the connexions that the horse had been given some poisonous substance. King’s Fair worked on the lead at Riccarton yesterday. Mrs A. H. Christmas, wife of the trainer, said the horse was well in himself, and if he ate satisfactorily he would run in the Apprentices Handicap tomorrow.
