N.Z. SURF TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA

94 NOMINATIONS FOR TEN PLACES (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 9. Nominations for the New Zealand surf life-saving team to tour Australia next year are heavy. The council of the New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association has received the nominations of 70 senior and 24 junior surfmen for the team. In 1952 the nominations for the tour, which was eventually cancelled, totalled 79. made up of 59 seniors and 20 juniors. The team will consist of seven seniors for rescue and resuscitation work, one surf ski rider, and two juniors. The side will be announced on December 14, after the final trials in Wellington.

TAYLORS MISTAKE CLUB The Taylor’s Mistake Surf Life-saving Club held its opening day on Sunday. There was a large attendance. The president (Mr G. Haxell) declared the season officially open. The surf events were keenly contested, and P. Garratt swam an exceptional race. Results:— Senior.—J. Hanafin 1, M. Duckmanton 2, G. Pratley 3, H. Goldsmith 4.

Women.—M. HYinter 1, H. Le Cren 2, J. Garratt 3, D. Breward 4.

Junior.—P. Garratt 1, B. Smith 2, P. Stead 3, R. 4.

Surf Ski Race.—R. Green 1, H. Hobson and P. Stead (equal) 2. L. Tynan 4. The following trophies were presented: Archbold cup (senior), M. Duckmanton; Russell trophv (women), M. Hunter; junior cup, H. Turnbull; ski trophy, B. Ransley. The annual Kesteven Cup day will be held on Sunday, January 24.
