POSSESSION OF PISTOL
ACCUSED FINED £2O (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 9. Geoffrey William Fisher, aged 33, a carpenter,- was fined £2O by Mr R. M, Grant, S.M, in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court today for having in his possession for other than lawful purposes a .38 automatic pistol and 16 rounds of .38 ammunition. “We are convinced this man is an active criminal,” said Detective-Ser-geant Goldfinch. He said that detectives had found £332 in cash in the accused’s possession, as well as a car he had bought for £350 and clothing valued at £2OO. He could not explain how he had come to own allthis, and he had not worked since he came out of prison four months ago. t The accused had 31 previous convictions for various offences. The police were pot satisfied that his possession of an automatic pistol was for any purpose but a sinister one.
