STRATFORD CLUB’

CLAIRE WINS MAIN EVENT '

(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 8. Claire scored her first win in open company when she won the Sidney Pitt Memorial Handicap, the principal event and the first leg of the double, on the final day of the Stratford Racing Club’s spring meeting on Saturday. . The Tekapua- Hack Handicap, the second leg of the double, was won by Slane King. The winning combination paid £5l 17s 6d for £l. Rain fell throughout the day, making conditions unpleasant for the fairly large crowd.

The totalisator handled £29,993 10s, compared with £34,320 10s for the same day last year—a decrease of £4327. The total for the meeting was £63,731, compared with £66,371 last year. The doubles totalisator handled £9902 15s, of which £2724 came from on-course sources. A protest by Mr M. P. Kuklinski, owner of Embossed, which finished second to Slane King in the Tekapua Hack Handicap, against interference by the winner in the straight, was dismissed.
