OBITUARY
MR S. E. HILL (New Zealand Press Association) i ROTORUA, November 7. A well-known resident of Wellington and latterly of Rotorua, Mr Sydney Ellis Hill, died on Wednesday night at his home in Rotorua. Mr Hill was born at Howberhaye, Colyton, Devon, and he and three brothers came to New Zealand in 1912. They began the business of Hill Brothers, Ltd., and built it up into a concern controlling 14 shops. Mr Hill was mahaging director of the company until the business was sold five years ago. Since then he had lived in retirement, in Rotorua. He had been in ill-health for the last three years.
Mr Hill’s main* sporting interest was racing, and the most notable performer to carry his colours was Princess Doreen, the champion two-year-old filly of the 1932 season, and winner of the C.J.C. Winter Cup of 1934 in the record time of Imin 39 4-ssec. Mr Hill is survived by his widow and one son.
