HOAD BEATS HARTWIG
QUEENSLAND SINGLES TITLE (Rec. 8 p.m.) BRISBANE, Nov. 8. Lewis Hoad (New South Wales) yesterday won the Queensland singles championship when he overwhelmed Rex Hartwig (Victoria), 6-4 : 6-1, 6-2. Hoad gave a thrilling . display of power, control and versatility. It was a tonic to Davis Cup hopes. He served 12 aces in the match.
Hartwig and Mervyn Rose caused an upset in the doubles final by beating Hoad' and Ken Rosewall, 7-5. 6-4, 6-4. Rosewall placed well below form, and Hartwig and Rose concentrated their attack on him.
Peer Remanded for Week.— -Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, aged 27, was today remanded for a week on his own bail of £5OO on a charge of having committed a serious offence with a young male person. He appeared at a special sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Lymington a few hours after he had voluntarily returned from France.— London, November 7.
