AT WELLINGTON TODAY

AIR COMMAND SHOULD RACE WELL Air Command, a member of G. B. Noble’s team at Yaldhurst, claims one engagement, the Marlborough Handicap, at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Park today. If the Light Brigade gelding races as well as he did when he graduated from maiden company at Geraldine recently, he should win. The brother to Flight Commander and Red Emperor has taken time to become solid, but he appears to be near his best now. He is a fine type of pacer and should win his way to good company this season. Most opposition to Air Command may come from another likely improver in King’s Blue. The half-brother to Royal Cameo has shown more than average ability in the little racing he has had to date. The experience he had at Oamaru recently should help to settle him down, and he should at least win a race today. He is engaged earlier in the Miramar Handicap, and he may be better suited by the longer journey there. Little Toff, a sister to a New' Zealand Cup winner in Chamfer, has a fair share of ability and over this sprint distance today she should be prominent. N. L. Berkett has her very well at present, and with a favourable run she should be prominent. Lee Scott, a member of G. T. Mitchell’s Cambridge team, has had two placings in recent weeks, and he may show up, and the chances of Andy Derby, Sure Terra, Sue Scott, and Virtuous are highly regarded. The other fields are of better strength than at recent Wellington meetings and horses expected to be prominent during the day include Chief Eagle, Executive, Reality. Bobbin, Chandelier, Golden Nib, and Notary. There has been some rain in Wellington during the last few days, but the track has not been seriously affected and should provide good going. The double will be run on the John Sharpe Memorial Handicap and the Marlborough Handicap. Selections are:—
