USE OF ESPERANTO

INCREASE OVERSEAS REPORTED

Details of increased Esperanto activity abroad were given to members of ths Christchurch Esperanto Society by the secretary (Mr W. H. King) at a recent meeting. All correspondence posted at the British Esperanto Congress at Bournemouth had been stamped with an official postmark bearing words “37-a Esperanto Kongreso” and the date, said Mr King. Esperanto had climbed to fourth place among the languages used in examinations organised in Britain by the Royal Society of Arts. In the same country, the National Council of Labour Colleges conducted Esperanto correspondence courses. In the field of medicine, a medical journal published in Japan appeared entirely in Esperanto, and similar journals published in Italy, Belgium and France printed Esperanto summaries of their articles, Mr King said. Esperanto was now taught at the College of Economic and Social Sciences, Athens, and was used in weekly radio programmes broadcast from four radio stations in Spain, he said. There were now more than 30 regular news broadcasts in Esperanto every week from radio stations throughout the world.
