MARKED FRIDAY ACTIVITY

A substantial turnover for s a Friday was recorded on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Some appreciable gains were written, and the only Joss on the day was a fractional one in the case of Norvic Shoes, a parcel of which sold 3d down at 14s 9d. A few more sellers appeared for Government stocks, but they were outnumbered by eager buyers. Bank of New South Wales shares and the rights,were again the centre of attraction. T'he shares sold 10s up at £3O 10s, with unsatisfied buyers at this figure. The rights were sparingly traded at £7 5s and £7 6s, the better price representing a gain of 3s. A. and N-Z. Banks showed a sharp rise, in business at 375, and at the close there were buyers® at 36s 9d and sellers at 37s 3d.
