TENANCY LAWS CRITICISED

ADDRESS TO N.Z. ESTATE INSTITUTE (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 6.

“As long as the Tenancy Act remains in force private enterprise will not risk the building or purchasing of house property for letting,” the retiring president (Mr J. A. Macdonald) told the annual conference of tile New Zealand Real Estate Institute, which ended in Wellington today. \

Fair rents legislation had been emergency legislation and the time was long past for its abolition, Mr Macdonald said. The present act catered for only one section of the community, and such legislation should not be perpetuated by any government except in a state of emergency.

Officers elected were:—president, Mr F. C. Wilkinson (Hastings); vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. H. Fisher (Wellington) and D. C. Wilson (Christchurch). A council of 22 members was also elected.
