FRENCH HOPES FOR U.N. SETTLEMENT

(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) DARWIN, Sept. 20. All France was hoping that the war in Indo-China would be settled by negotiation within the United Nations after the Korea problems were ended, the French Minister of Overseas Territories (Mr Louis Jacquinot) said in. Darwin today. He said: “Unless the war is stopped soon, France cannot continue to fight it alone, and will have to seek outside help.” This was the only way in which the southward march of communism could be halted, he said. France’s losses had been heavy, and the nation could not continue to fight alone.
