CHANGES IN CHINA

Finance Minister Replaced (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) HONG KONG, Sept. 20. China has removed the Finance Minister (Mr Po Yi-po) and the SecretaryGeneral of the Central People’s Government Administrative Council (Mr Li Wei-han) in a big reshuffle involving 15 Ministerial and other administrative posts, Peking Radio announced today. The broadcast said Mr Po was replaced by Mr Teng Hsiao-ping, who had been appointed both Minister of Finance and vice-chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee.

Mr Hsi Chung-hsun has been appointed Secretary-General of the Government Administrative Council, the highest administrative organ of the Peking Central People’s Government. The reshuffle is believed to be designed to strengthen the administrative leadership, to overhaul the Finance Ministry, and to bolster planning in China’s first five-year plan.
