KAIAPOI-CHRISTCHURCH RACE For the second year in succession, A. W. Richards (Technical) on Saturday gained fastest time in the Presbyterian Harrier Club’s modified marathon from Kaiapoi to Christchurch. His time of 66min ssec was the same as he recorded last year. Richards, giving away handicaps up to 21min, finished in twenty-sixth place. Giving the front markers Bmin, D. Cartwright (Marist) ran an excellent race for first place. J. Arris (Timaru Presbyterian), overhauled the front markers, A. G. Wilson (Presbyterian) and N. O’Sullivan (Marist) with a 2min start, within the first three miles. Making the most of his handicap. Arris continued out in front till passed by Cartwright near St. Albans. Still full of running, Cartwright opened up a gap of over 500 yards in the one mile and a half to the finish. Technical easily won the teams’ contest, which was decided on the aggregate of the four fastest times. Results (net running times):—D. Cartwright (Marist), 71min 4sec, 1: J.
