FIRM’S DRAMA GROUP

FIRST PERFORMANCE NEXT WEEK A drama society consisting of members of a large Christchurch firm will, for a wOek begihfiing nefct Saturday, preseht a programme consisting of condensations of three plays. The groiip, kfiown as the Farmers’ Drama Society, was formed in Match this year, under the guidance of Mr Alah de Maltn&hche, who returned to Christchutch about a year ago after studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art ih London under Government and British CbtmOil bursaries. . The group has about 40 members. For the first three mohths members diet weekly for a comprehensive course of instruction. Then a start was made on the society’s first productions. Mr de Malmanche has chosen condensations of “Stage Door,” by Edna Ferber ahd George Kaufman, “ r Hie Adding Machine/’ by Elmer Rice, and “Rope,” by Patrick Hamilton. Several ihdmbets of the society have had earlier dramatic training. Sylvia Buckland attended the Webber-Doug-laS .School ih London, John Hamilton studied in Melbourne, ahd Gregory Kane received tuition in Cairo and Athens.
