MODEL YACHTING
OPENING OF SEASON The No. 1 club race conducted by the Christchurch Model Yacht Club during the week-end marked the opening of the club’s fifty-sixth season. Mr H. J. Bowlker, a life member who sailed in the first year of the club, officially opened the season.
The following are the results of the first and second heats of the race, sailed in a medium north-easterly wind:—* First Heat.—Truro, B. George (31min 30sec), 29min 40sec, 1; Defiance, Barry Holland (6min), 34min 38sec, 2; Valkyrie, A. Trethewey (3min lOsec), 30min 28sec, 3; Moana, F. Jago (Imin 50sec), 31min 36sec, 4; Scotty, D. Fleming (Imin), 32min 21sec, 5.
Second Heat.—Vai, F. Grey (3min), 30min 31sec, 1; Truro, 31min 3sec, 2; Defiance, 34min 31sec, 3; Maple. John Haldane (scr), 29min 31sec, 4; Moana, 34min
Points gained were: Truro 13, Defiance and Vai 8 (equal).
The first heat of the points trophy race resulted:—Maple (scr), 40min 19set, 1; Vai (3min), 46min 53sec, 2; Truro (3min 30sec), 47min 54sec, 3; Crest, W. Schenkel (3min 30sec), smin 28sec, 4; Faith, J. L. Donohue (4min lOsec), 57min Bsec, 5.
