WELFARE OF THE AGED
Sir,—The Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council has reserved the Capping Day collection of £lBB2 pending alternative accommodation for the residents of Howardville. Presuming that the executive have met since my letter of July 19, has the street collection of £2OOO been released and allotted to kindred organisations, or, alternatively, can they cite one instance where a pensioner has derived any monetary assistance from the public’s kind response? Has the council approached the Prime Minister demanding that he honour his pledge, given in the Theatre Royal, Christchurch, on August 13, 1951, “greatly to increase and improve the social security system?’’ A justifiable approach to Mr Holland, from the 92 per cent, neglected pensioners’ viewpoint, would enhance the prestige of the council.— Yours, etc., HUMBLE HARRY. August 30, 1953.
