N.Z. HOME SERVICE ASSOCIATION
CHANGE IN MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATION (New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, August 30. The New Zealand Homeservicemens’ Association decided at its annual conference yesterday to widen the qualifications for entrance to the association.
Servicemen who served for 28 days during the Second World War and who were then directed into essential industries are now eligible for membership. Previously, the minimum qualification was three months’ military service.
“There is no time limit on patriotic assistance,” said Mr K. Dodson (Marlborough), "nor is there any time limit for rehabilitation or pensions.” “I opposed wider entry because of our rehabilitation chances,” said Mr M. A. Nicol. “Apparently we are not going to get what we want so far as rehabilitation goes, so I am all for it.” a The following officers were elected by the association:— President. Mr E. M. Stace, vicepresident, Mr M. A. Nicol, treasurer, Mr J. M. Andrew; council, Messrs J. R. Tyson, C. Greeves, R. H. Summerfield, C. W. Stack, R. R. F. Ryan, L. W. Ayres, J. F. Cook, K. G. Lattimer, W. R. Mclndoe. P. J. Hailes, A. L. Familton, and W. D. Buchanan: management committee, Mrs G. E. Stowe, Messrs J. B. Brown, M. A. Nolan, P. B. Owen, D. J. F. White, W. B. Hogg, G. M. Murch, R. H. Summerfield, J. F. Cook, and P. J. Hailes.
