LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

PREPARATIONS FOR STAFFING

Preliminary selections for the first principal of the new Linwood High School in Aldwins road will start on August 10, when the full school board will meet as a committee to consider applications and possibly reduce them to a short list.. The applications will close on August 3. The Linwood High School Board of Managers, whose members at present are those of the central board, was informed last evening that an opening roll of about 250 third-form pupils seemed likely. The secretary (Mr P. J. Halligan) said enrolments up to yesterday totalled 220. divided as follows: professional course, 49 boys, 24 girls; commercial, 9 boys, 28 girls; general, 71 boys; home life, 39 girls. Three enrolments were made on Monday, and with latecomers the original estimate of 250 pupils would probably be realised. Mr Halligan said. A staffing schedule was given preliminary consideration, and a committee comprising the senior inspector of post-primary schools (Mr J. L. Cameron), Mr A. E. Caddick, and Mr Halligan will make the final decision for applications to be called in the middle of August. It was decided to urge the Education Department to complete the basic development of the grounds in time for grassing in the spring.
