SOLDIER’S DEATH IN CANADA

FINDING OF BOARD OF INQUIRY (Rec. 9 PM) OTTAWA, July 19. Canadian Army Headquarters said today that there was nothing to indicate that Private Frederick Joseph Burke, aged 29, of Regina, who died after undergoing punishment drill at the Petawa military camp, received anything but normal treatment. The army said a Board of Inquiry had found there was no negligence nor lack of proper consideration on the part of the staff of the detention barracks.

Private Burke collapsed after a 20minute packdrill exercise on the Petawa obstacle course, while serving seven days’ detention for being absent without leave. He died in the camp hospital
