APPLICANTS FOR NAVY

RECRUITING BOARD SITS AT CHRISTCHURCH

Of 19 applications for entry into the Royal New Zealand Navy, nine were accepted yesterday by the Navy Recruiting Board, on the first day of a two-day sitting at H.M.N.Z.S, Pegasus. The educational standard of the applicants was generally high, said Commander B. E. Turner, D.S.C., R.N.Z.N., who is head of the board. Of those who failed, three did not pass the educational test, three were rejected for medical reasons, two were under age and two wished to complete this year at school. • The board will examine more applicants today.
