TRANSPORT BOARD’S REVENUE

INCREASE OF 12.6 PER CENT. FOR JUNE

An increase to £35,972 in traffic revenue of the Christchurch Transport Board for the four weeks ended June 21, 1953, was reported to a meeting of the board yesterday. This represented a 12.6 per cent, or £4023 increase on the same period last year. Revenue from other sources amounted to £l3OB, a decrease of £3060, making the total revenue for the four weeks £37,280 an increase of £963.

During the four weeks, 1,780,244 passengers were carried, compared with 1.801,345 last year, a decrease of 21,101. The percentage of the decline in passengers at 1.2 per cent, was the lowest since the fares were increased in October. 1952.

Revenue derived on Queen’s Birthday amounted to £ 1093, compared with £758 for the corresponding day in 1952. On Coronation Day the revenue totalled £1482.
