ROYAL VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH

DISCUSSION WITH ORGANISER

Finality in the plans for the enter* tainment in Christchurch of Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh may be reached tomorrow, when the Secretary of Internal Affair! (Mr A. G. Harper) will discuss the details with the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.).

A deviation of the Oxford terrace route which will be used on six< occasions by the Queen during her visit is almost certain to be approved. The Mayor will suggest to Mr Harper that official approval be given of a route via the Bridge of Remembrance, Cambridge terrace and Montreal street bridge instead of along Oxford terrace between Cashel street and Montreal street. A problem dealing with school children will also be discussed. The children will be assembled in Park terrace and Harper avenue for the Queen’s ceremonial drive and the question has arisen whether children belonging to organisations will be marshalled separately or join other children from their own schools. A report has been made that an evening entertainment for the Royal party will be added to the official list. The Mayor said yesterday that the suggestion would be discussed with Mr Harper.
