OCEAN RACE TO HAWAII

KETCH PROBABLE WINNER (Red. 11.30 p.m.) HONOLULU. July 20. The 39-foot ketch Staghound glided past Diamond Head last night, and unofficially won the 2225-mile Califomia-to-Hawaii yacht race. The Staghound was the seventeenth yacht to finish in the race, but her big handicap gave Tier a corrected time of 10 days 23 hours 42 minutes 49 seconds. Race officials said the Staghound was “a certain unofficial winner.” The official winner will be announced only after all the 32 yachts in the race have arrived. ' ■The Staghound was not reported for six days until she approached Hawaii. She ousted from first place the 67foot yawl Chubasco, which had a corrected time of 11 days 7 hours 12 minutes 48$ seconds.
