MAN KILLED ON JIGGER

HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH RAILCAR

SON JUMPS CLEAR BEFORE IMPACT (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 19. A head-on collision between the Woodville-Wellington rail-car and a motor jigger on Saturday afternoon resulted in the depth of a ganger who was driving the jigger.

He was:— Percy Edward Hanson, aged 49, married, of Hukanui.

Railway officials believe he suffered a seizure as the rail-car approached, for he made no apparent attempt to stop the jigger or get off it. His son, who was a passenger on the jigger, jumped clear and escaped injury.

The accident occurred at 12.40 p.m., one mile north of Newman. The ganger was travelling north from Eketahuna to his home at Hukanui. The impact caused considerable damage to the front of the rail-car, wrenching off the instrument panel, and it was unable to continue. Passengers were taken to their destinations by bus.

About 12 months ago Hanson was seriously injured when a jigger on which he was riding struck a wandering cow in a tunnel.
