MR REX PATTERSON’S PROPERTIES

Sir.—ln today’s farm page I read with considerable interest Mr H. Studholme’s excellent article concerning Mr R. Patterson’s properties in Hampshire, as I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Patterson and of going over some of his farms when in England two years ago. The article states that Mr Patterson has been a close student of New Zealand methods although he had only made a brief trip to New Zealand, and that quite recently. There is more to it than that, however. His present overall head farm manager is Mr W. S. Hay, an Englishman who came out here as a youne man to learn farming, was here for about 10 "years, and is also a former student of Lincoln College. Incidentally, Mr Hay married Miss N. Gard’ner, elder daughter of Colonel Gard’ner, formerly of Christchurch.—Yours, etc., E. LEWIS. July 18, 1953.
